Can I get a Tattoo in the Summer?
Can You Get a Tattoo in Summer?
Of course you can — just follow a few simple rules.
This question came up often during our time in Finland, and we completely understand why. Sunny and warm days are rare and precious in the North, so people naturally worry about whether summer is the “wrong” time to get tattooed.
But ask the same question in Australia or California, where the sun shines most of the year, and the answer is obvious.
There is no contraindication to getting a tattoo in summer.
Why Summer Can Actually Be a Good Time
In many ways, summer is one of the best seasons for tattooing. The skin is usually in better condition — naturally nourished and more hydrated than during long, windy winters. Unless someone spends excessive time sunbathing without protection, summer skin tends to heal very well.
Winter, on the other hand, often brings dry skin, cold air, strong wind, and indoor heating — all of which can negatively affect healing. That is why moisturising creams become lifesavers during colder months.
Another advantage of summer is time. Many people are on vacation, finally relaxed, with space in their schedule to get their dream tattoo — ideally in our studio.
The Only Rules That Matter (During Healing)
Getting tattooed in summer is completely fine, as long as you respect the healing process. These rules apply only during healing, not for the entire summer.
-
No sauna
Usually not a big issue in summer, but still important.
-
No swimming
Lakes, pools, rivers, and the sea must be avoided until the tattoo is healed.
-
Avoid sun exposure on fresh tattoos
We covered this topic in detail here:
https://vadelma.eu/blog
Sun exposure on a fresh tattoo can seriously damage the final result, so protection is non-negotiable.

Healing Is What Really Matters
The season does not matter nearly as much as proper aftercare.
Healing is the key factor — whether it is summer, winter, autumn, spring, a weekday, or a national holiday. A tattoo that is well taken care of will heal beautifully in any season.
At Vadelma Tattoo, we do our part with precision and experience. After that, the responsibility shifts to you. Good care always pays off.

Final Thoughts
Summer is not a problem for tattoos.
Neglecting aftercare is.
Respect the healing process, protect your skin, and your tattoo will reward you for years to come.
