Tattoos on Feet – Why We Don’t Do Them at Vadelma Tattoo
Hello Everyone!
In today’s blog, I’d like to share a few honest words about tattoos on feet. Recently, we’ve received many emails from people interested in this placement. As you might already know, we don’t tattoo feet at Vadelma Tattoo. This isn’t a random rule — it’s a conscious decision based on experience, technique, and care for long-term results. Let’s talk about why.
Will a Tattoo on Feet Stay There?
The honest answer is: it depends — but most often, not very well.
Feet belong to a group of placements such as fingers, palms, and soles, which are extremely prone to fading. The skin there regenerates faster, is constantly exposed to friction, pressure, and moisture, and behaves very differently from areas like the forearm or upper arm.
If someone expects a delicate fine-line tattoo on the foot to remain crisp for years, that expectation usually doesn’t match reality. Bold traditional tattoos may survive longer, but even then, feet remain one of the most unstable placements.
What looks great on social media shortly after being done often tells a very different story a few months later.
“I Don’t Care If It Fades” – Or Do You?
This is something we hear often.
Many people say they don’t mind if the tattoo fades — and that’s their right. But here’s the contradiction we notice repeatedly:
those same people often come back asking for touch-ups.
Touch-ups are not endless, not always free, and not without consequences. Every time a line is reworked, especially by another artists, it can become thicker and less delicate. A design that was meant to be subtle slowly loses its original character.
At Vadelma Tattoo, we care deeply about how a tattoo will age, not only how it looks on day one. For us, a tattoo should grow old gracefully — and feet make that extremely difficult.
Skin Quality and Technical Limitations
A beautiful tattoo needs a good canvas.
The skin on the feet is thicker in some areas, thinner in others, and constantly under mechanical stress. Technically speaking, it is not possible to achieve the same level of precision and detail on feet as on more stable parts of the body.
That’s one of the reasons why we choose to focus our energy on placements that allow us to create the kind of work we truly believe in. If you’re curious about our approach and style, you can explore our available projects here:

Hygiene and Healing Concerns
This is a very important point.
A fresh tattoo is an open wound. Now imagine trying to keep it clean while wearing shoes, walking all day, sweating, and exploring Amsterdam during a short trip — especially in summer.
Feet are one of the hardest areas to heal properly. Poor airflow, moisture, and friction significantly increase the risk of infection and healing complications.
If someone is determined to get a foot tattoo, doing it in their home town, with enough time to rest, stay barefoot, and strictly follow proper aftercare instructions, would already improve the odds.

A Conscious Choice at Vadelma Tattoo
At Vadelma Tattoo, we make clear decisions about what we do and what we don’t do. Not because something is impossible, but because we want to stand behind every tattoo we create — not only today, but years from now.
