Why we prepare designs before session?
Learn more about how we create Your Tattoo Project!
As You can read in the FAQ section, under the question “ Can I see the project before the session ?” The answer is :
“ In Vadelma Tattoo Studio we prepare designs before the session. After inquiry and booking a spot, your tattoo artist starts to create a unique project for You. It always takes time to make something special. With a detailed description of your idea and sending reference pictures, you would help your tattoo artist a lot to harmonize with your expectations.”
Every time You come for a session in our studio.
Your project is ready for You. Then, we chose together the final size, placement and the fun begins! There are few reasons why we work like that. Let us explain. Making a good project requires full concentration and time. If we do it on the same day as the tattoo session, a half of our creating force will go on that. That’s not the way we want to work. Always 100% must be given to the tattoo! Nothing is more important at that moment. Usually we start to make a project 1-3 weeks prior to the appointment. That way there is enough time for us to eventually get back to it, change something and be sure that it is real good, not average but real good.
It saves us both ( Tattoo Artist + Client ) a lot of time.
I’ll tell You a hypothetical story of what it might look like if I make the designs on the appointment. Let’s say that You come for a session at 10:00 am. We say hello, You take off your shoes and jacket, and we start to talk about the project. It is 10:15 already. If everything goes super well. I know what you are looking for and have enough information at 10:30. Then I give You the health questionnaire and ask You to sit and wait until I am ready with the project. For example, You would like to have a peony flower on Your forearm. One big flower, two smaller and of course some leaves. Size: around 15 cm. You came here for something beautiful, so I need to deliver my promise.
I start to think about the composition.
Where to place everything to make it suitable to Your arm. Then I start my creative process. Finally it is time for me to begin to draw. Nowadays there is a big improvement in that field, because of technology. I can use Apple Pencil and draw directly in the programm, to have an electronic version of my drawing. But the electronic device is not making the drawing itself! I still have to do it with my own hands. It is like playing on an acoustic or an electric guitar. In both cases You need to have the skills to perform. Nothing will replace it! Ok. I managed it and let’s see what time it is. 12:30 ! I am so proud that I did it so quickly!
Now I will show You the design.
What a great relief! You really, really like it ( I don’t want to be arrogant, but to be honest it is always like that ). We check a couple of sizes, then once more the placement and I can finally prepare Your skin, reflect the design and … start tattooing ? What if You want to have the tattoo a little higher or lower ? What if You want to change the size for a little bit smaller ? Then please add 10-15 minutes to it 🙂 Ok! Now everything is ready and we can start! How long can a tattoo session take? That is a great question. It depends on the complexity of design, amount of details, size, placement. It also depends on how long the customer can stand without a break. In Vadelma we have such a policy that :
“NO RUSH WHILE TATTOOING”
It is permanent and we are here to make the best art we could, not the fastest. We know from our clients that they are thankful for that. A tattoo must be made in the most precise and accurate way possible! The specificity of my technique in 99% cases makes it impossible to do the project and the tattoo itself at the same time. It is simply too complicated. It is not something You can do fast. I always need time on my own to think about it and really design them. Once again, I draw them by myself and it takes much more time than stealing a project from Pinterest. My projects have many details, shadings, and plans. Before the tattoo session I became a full-time draftswoman ( some of my clients said that : successfully my drawings could find a place in an illustrated book, novel ). If you’ve seen some of my designs/tattoos You know exactly what I am talking about.
That would be everything for today. Thank You for reading and Your time! Now You know me a little bit better.
Take care,
Natalie, Vadelma Team
