How to book an appointment at Vadelma Tattoo in Amsterdam?
For all of You who prefer to read, here it the script of the episode :
Welcome! My name is Simon Vadelma – I am a tattoo artist and co-owner of Vadelma Tattoo in Amsterdam. In today’s episode we’re going to talk about how to book an Appointment at Vadelma Tattoo, what information we need from You before the session to create the project of Your dreams, and why writing an email is probably the best way to do it. To support – visit our Art Print store – www.vadelmaprints.com , where You can find Natalie’s original artwork. Museum quality Art Prints – in one size only, by design – like in the real paintings. At Vadelma Tattoo we work by appointment only. It gives us more time to prepare for every tattoo and freedom to choose only the projects that resonate with us. It is a good place to be, both for customers and us. So, It means that before You book a session at Vadelma, first we will have a nice little online conversation via email, or sometimes through Instagram. No Phone calls though, they are less efficient, less convenient and it is pretty easy to miss some important details, and details are important in this profession. By purpose, we are keeping everything in written form. If we put enough time to discuss and agree on the project beforehand – there is little to no chance to make mistakes in Your design.
You know, to draw a rose instead of a poppy. Why is writing an email probably the best way to do it?
Well, here are some of the benefits :
- First, You can describe Your ideas freely, and even edit the text in a nice, readable way. Without the limitations of social media messaging, we can have a more organized conversation.
- Secondly, The reference pictures are attached in a great quality. important point, especially if Your tattoo is going to be based on an original handwriting from , let’s say ,Your family member, or a flower from Your own garden. Unfortunately, DMs destroy the quality, and to reflect the vibe of those things – better photos are always better.
- And Last, Writing an email has something traditional in it. In fact – it is our modern way to write letters, and writing a letter is an act of pouring our thoughts on paper. The best way to find out what we are actually thinking is to write it down, or to tell someone. When we write, we create our ideas in a more orderly way, we think about a subject more consciously and deeper. And that’s exactly what You need – to have a tattoo of Your dreams. So, take a moment Sit down, open Your computer and write a nice email describing what Your vision for a tattoo is, and then we’ll make that happen for You 🙂
Writing a DM is fine as well of course, I understand that it is more convenient for many people, however still I would encourage You to write an email. You will be engaged more into the process and You’ll feel like You are doing something extraordinary. Somehow, DMs are taking that fun away, it makes booking an appointment very casual, more trivial. And getting a tattoo is indeed something YOu are not doing everyday so let’s make it special, from the start. What information do we need from You? To an addition to the overall description and reference pictures, please share with us placement where You would like to have that tattoo, and size of it. Oh, and the reference pictures don’t need to be a tattoo. In fact it is better, especially for Natalie to see the pictures of real flowers, leaves or plants You would like to turn into a tattoo and then she can use her magic and draw them for You.
Please always write sizing in centimeters, even use a tailor’s tape to be specific. Small, big, medium are too relative terms and could mean different things to different people. Why is it important? Because, there is a different creative process behind making a floral bouquet, with 3 flowers, on the inside part of the forearm for about 10 cm, in comparison to even the same idea but on ribs. Not to mention, when it is a change in size by a lot ( from 10 to 20 cm for example ), then it might even need redesigning. However small changes are fine – please don’t worry too much about that either. Just remember that placement and sizing determine how we will approach Your project, so it’s better to have it right.
The best thing You can do, and in fact what most of our customers do. Is to send a picture of Your own body, where You would like to have that tattoo. For example, if You want to place the project on Your inner forearm, take a picture of that placement, then, by using the most basic editing tool that every smartphone has, draw a circle, or a few simple lines to show how You envisioned the tattoo.
That simple trick is a game changer for us to create Your tattoo, it helps to really match the design to Your specific needs 🙂
That’s it for today. I hope that this video helped a bit. Thank You for Your time!
Have a good day and have fun!
